| Joey est un auteur-compositeur-interprète
et musicien aux multiples talents. Il joue de la basse,
de la guitare, de la contrebasse, de la guitare synthétiseur,
du clavier et de la clarinette. Pour débuter, parlons de son enfance. Il est né à Ste.-Foy, et a grandit près de Windsor, en Ontario. À 7 ans, il charmait déjà les spectateurs. Il a chanté pour la toute première fois à "Barnburners" au Nouveau-Brunswick. Il y a interprété "Send me the pillow", sur une meule de foin sur laquelle son père l'avait assis tout en l'incitant à chanter. À l'adolescence, il fut de la distribution du film Across this land. À 13 ans, il montait sur scène avec Chuck Berry. À l'âge de 17 ans, Joey accompagné de son grand-père passèrent par le bar le Yakety Yak de Montréal. Le groupe Johnny Jetblack était les artistes invités (groupe auquel était rattaché Sidney Freund, guitariste d'épopée rock) Connaissant les goûts musicaux de Joey, son grand-père demanda pour que Joey puisse chanter une chanson avec eux. Joey interprèta Pretty woman s'accompagnant déjà à la basse. il en surpris plus d'un avec sa voix exceptionnelle. De 1984 à 1990, Joey fit parti de la grande distribution d'Épopée rock et fut membre des Stardust de cette même émission. Pendant cette période, les Stardust ont sorti deux albums et fait de nombreuses émissions de variétés et de spectacles afin de les promouvoir. Durant cette émission, Joey sillonnait la province avec Les Stardust mais aussi avec son groupe personnel, les Bélairs. Il se consacre également à l'écriture de compositions mais il écrit aussi pour d'autres artistes, tels que : Patrick Norman et Paul Daraiche. Lors de la production d'album, Joey occupe plusieurs fonctions. il est choriste et il prend en charge les arrangements, le mixage, la production et la réalisation du produit. Durant ces années, il a sorti une cassette de musique rétro et une cassette de musique country rock. Dans les années 1990, Joey Tardif avait un fan club, dont j'étais membre assidu. Durant cette même année, Joey a créé un personnage au nom de Nasty Joe et s'est lancé dans la musique rap. Un excellent disque de rap en fut le résultat. Un disque dont deux chansons fut mises en vidéo et mises au classement à la programmation de Musique plus. En 1991, Joey sous le nom de Joey Ferrera (nom de famille de son père) a fait un excellent cd dance music. Entre temps, Joey continue de sillonner la province pour présenter d'excellents spectacles. Qu'il soit en groupe, ou en solo, il est toujours aussi populaire et applaudi. Pendant un an, Joey et Sidney ont joués avec un groupe de 10 musiciens afin de faire l'animation de noces et de conventions. De 2001 à juillet 2006, Joey chantait les succès rétro sous le nom JETBLACK avec Sidney Freund. Par la suite, il a aussi chanté sous Joey Tardif trio. Depuis l'automne 2007, Joey fait l'animation de son propre club, a la Maison du Bootlegger. |
Joey is a song writer, performer and a
musician with multiple talents. He plays bass, guitar,
double-bass, guitar synth, keyboards and clarinet. To
begin with, let’s talk about his early
apprenticeship. He was born in St. Foy in Quebec but grew up near Windsor, Ontario. I began singing at the age of 7, at 'Barnburners' in southern New Brunswick "send me the pillow" was thery 1st song I ever sang. My father sat me on a haystack and prompted me to sing. In his young teens, he had already appeared in small TV roles as well as a film called Across This Land. At age 17, Joey and his grandfather visited the Yakkity Yak club in Montreal in 1977. The house band was Johnny Jetblack and the Comeback, of which Sidney Freund was a member and was later to become a member of Epopee Rock with Joey. Knowing Joey’s abilities, his grandfather asked the band if Joey could do a song. So he got up and played bass and sang Pretty Woman and surprised everyone, including the band, with his amazing voice. From 1984 to 1990, Joey played a big part in the well known TV show Epopee Rock as a member of Les Stardust, the musical group of the show. During this time, the Stardust put out two albums and did the rounds of all the variety and talk shows to promote them selves. At the same time that Joey was playing with the Stardust, he was also performing all over the province with his own band, The Belairs. He
also devoted lots of time writing his own songs as well
as for other artists such as Patrick Norman and Paul
Daraiche. In the 90’s, Joey had developed a following and I, Rockabillynat (the founder of this site), was a staunch member. In the 90’s again, Joey took on the character of Nasty Joe, the rap singer. Two songs were produced, one becoming a video which played in rotation on Musique Plus. Under the name of Joey Ferrera, his father’s name, he released an excellent CD of dance music in 1991. In the meantime, he continued to tour the province appearing everywhere with a group or as a solo act. His popularity continues and he is still much appreciated. On December 4, 1998, Joey played his first gig with Jetblack with Jim and Sid. This came to a temporary halt in May 2000 when Jetblack ceased to exist because of Jim Cahill’s departure. So starting in April of 2000, Joey and Sid played in a group of ten musicians, The Showmen, doing weddings and conventions mostly. Since April of 2001 until July of 2006, Joey returned to his retro roots singing with Jetblack and Sid again and still rendering hommage to that great TV show, Epopee Rock. After, he has palyed as Joey Tardif Trio. Since falls 2007, Joey play gigs to the club to Maison du Bootlegger. |
